UPDF Set To Recruit 9,600 Soldiers: Application Starts 1st July 2024

The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) has announced an its plan to recruit 9,600 new soldiers in 2024.

In an official statement released by the UPDF, the recruitment process is set to begin 1st July 2024 and close on 14th July 2024. The recruitment will also support the UPDF’s mission to maintain peace and stability in Uganda and contribute to international peacekeeping efforts.

Brig Gen Kulayigye emphasized the importance of this 2024 recruitment. “The security landscape is continuously evolving, and it is crucial for the UPDF to adapt by recruiting new, highly motivated, and well-trained soldiers. This initiative will not only strengthen our defense forces but also provide young Ugandans with a noble path to serve their country.”

The UPDF has set stringent criteria to ensure only the best candidates are selected. Applicants must be Ugandan citizens aged between 18 and 25 for general recruitment. A minimum education level of an O-Level certificate with credits in English and Mathematics is required. Additionally, candidates must demonstrate good conduct, physical fitness, and pass comprehensive medical examinations.

Forms are available on the recruitment portal, www.updf.go.ug. The recruitment process will involve several stages, including document verification, physical fitness tests, medical examinations, and interviews.

The new recruits will undergo intensive training at various UPDF training centers, where they will learn military tactics, weapon handling, and other essential skills. This training will equip them to handle diverse security challenges and support peacekeeping missions.

The addition of 9,600 soldiers will not only enhance the operational capacity of the UPDF but also ensure that Uganda remains well-prepared to face any security threats.
