Job Specifications For the Position of Principal Investment Officer

Job Description:

  1. The Manufacturing, Agribusiness and Services (MAS) Africa Department is recruiting a Hub lead New Business, Manufacturing & Services (M&S) to join the M&S team, which is responsible for sourcing and executing investment transactions in the M&S sectors.
  2. The Hub lead would cover the Lagos, Cameroon, and Ghana CMU clusters.
  3. This is a senior role that requires strong and demonstrated technical and structuring skills as well as leadership, resource and change management, and relationship skills.
  4. The Hub lead will be based in Lagos (Nigeria) and will report to the Regional Industry Manager, Manufacturing for West, Central, North Africa, and Horn of Africa.

Academic Qualifications and Skills:

  1. MBA, Master’s Degree in Finance or equivalent
  2. At least 12-15 years of work experience for a major commercial or investment bank with significant emerging markets presence, an international financial institution or a private equity firm
  3. Experience in investment transaction, with proven success in developing client relationships as well as sourcing, negotiating, structuring and closing quality investments and strong knowledge and prior experience in the tourism, retail and property sectors
  4. Knowledge of and experience in emerging markets a plus (particularly in Africa)
  5. Strong business judgment in identifying potential business partners
  6. Strong financial and credit skills; sound business judgment and demonstrated ability to structure a variety of financial instruments (debt and equity)
  7. Client relationship skills, track record and ability to focus on client needs effectively
  8. Ability to interact directly and independently with the senior management of clients, financial and technical partners as well as senior government officials
  9. Strong people management, interpersonal and leadership skills, ability to work successfully in multicultural teams and across boundaries and to build networks across the region, including the ability to mentor and coach others to achieve results
  10. Excellent organizational, administrative, and time management skills
  11. Proven ability to work independently and deliver promptly and efficiently under pressure and meet tight deadlines
  12. Willingness to travel extensively and geographic flexibility
  13. Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.  Fluency in other languages, particularly French is a plus.

Job Specifications For the Position of Senior Investment Officer

Job Description:

  1. IFC is recruiting a Senior Investment Officer as part of its Regional Manufacturing, Agribusiness and Services (MAS) team in Africa. The selected candidate will provide expertise in the Manufacturing sector to the IFC MAS regional industry teams in Africa.
  2. This role requires strong and demonstrated technical skills in sourcing, structuring, negotiating, and executing transactions and in portfolio management.
  3. The Senior Investment Officer will also have a significant role in setting strategies to grow IFC’s Africa Manufacturing business, as well as day-to-day responsibilities leading transactions, and portfolio management.
  4. She/he will report to IFC Regional Industry Manager, Manufacturing & Chemicals, for West, Central, North Africa, and Horn of Africa.

Educational qualifications and Skills:

  1. MBA or equivalent qualification.
  2. 10 – 12 years of experience in corporate and/or project finance with a proven track record of sourcing, structuring and closing investments.
  3. Excellent financial, credit and equity skills; demonstrated ability to creatively structure a variety of complex debt and equity instruments.
  4. Expertise in the Manufacturing sector.  
  5. Experience in Africa will be a plus (but not mandatory).
  6. Proactiveness, strong business development and client relationship skills, and ability to focus on client needs effectively.
  7. Ability to interact directly and independently with the senior management of potential clients, financial and technical partners, as well as senior government officials.
  8. Sound business judgment in identifying potential business partners and investment opportunities.
  9. Strong written and verbal communications skills in English.
  10. Strong interpersonal skills, ability to interact effectively with clients and colleagues.
  11. Team player. Ability to work sensitively and effectively in a multicultural setting.
  12. Takes personal responsibility and accountability for timely response to client queries, requests or needs, working to remove obstacles that may impede execution or overall success.
  13. Willing to travel (or live) in various regions in Africa (as long as safety standards are met based on the World Bank Group standards).
  14. Strong passion in sustainable economic development.
  15. Exceptional attention to detail.
  16. Strong research and quantitative skills.
  17. Strong Computer skills to develop user-friendly/punchy analyses/presentations (word, excel, and Powerpoint).
